De eerste hulpverleners arriveerden rond 01.00 uur, lokale tijd, bij het epicentrum in de plaats Shahe.De Chinese autoriteiten hebben een noodrespons op niveau III geactiveerd. China hanteert een noodresponssysteem met vier niveaus, waarbij niveau I de hoogste alarmfase is.
