Er is steeds meer animo bij Nederlanders voor een woning in Spanje, blijkt uit verkoopcijfers over het eerste half jaar. Nederlanders hebben bijna de Duitsers ingehaald. Naast gepensioneerde zonzoekers zien makelaars een groeiend aantal jongeren en beleggers die het eigen land ontvluchten. Nederlanders kochten in het eerste half jaar 4166 huizen in Spanje. Dat is bijna 19 procent meer dan in dezelfde periode een jaar eerder. Daarmee naderen Nederlanders de Duitse kopers, die in het eerste halfjaar 4756 keer toesloegen. Britten zitten daar nog net duizend huizen boven. Bij Nederlandse kopers is vooral de regio Murcia in trek, met 15,2 procent van de aankopen. Daarna komen de regio’s Valencia (14,9 procent) en Andalusië (11,8 procent), blijkt uit cijfers van de Spaanse organisatie voor het notariaat. Nederlanders geven volgens de notarissen gemiddeld 2574 euro per vierkante meter uit. Verslaggever Babette Wieringa legt uit wat de risico’s zijn bij het kopen van een huis in de Spaanse zon.

De elektrische huurstep, waar ook toeristen vaak gebruik van maken, wordt verboden in Florence. Het is de eerste Italiaanse stad die van het omstreden vervoermiddel afstapt. Dit melden Italiaanse media. In Parijs en Madrid zijn ze eerder ook afgeschaft. Het verbod in Florence gaat op 1 april volgend jaar in.

De politie Oost-Brabant noemt het ’een doorn in het oog’ dat stropen op Nederlandse bodem een hardnekkig en alsmaar groeiend probleem is. In het buitengebied van Nuenen werden twee 19-jarigen, één uit het dorp en één uit Frankrijk, op heterdaad betrapt op verdenking van stroperij op hazen met honden. Een van de betrokken agenten: ,,Strooptochten vallen met regelmaat echt onder georganiseerde criminaliteit.”

Rond de Mall of the Netherlands is het zondagmiddag erg druk. De gemeente Leidschendam-Voorburg roept bezoekers daarom op niet meer met de auto te komen. Alle parkeerplaatsen zijn vol en op de wegen daarnaartoe staat het verkeer muurvast, aldus de gemeente. Er zijn verkeersregelaars ingezet.
