Het Nederlands elftal heeft zich maandagavond officieel geplaatst voor het WK in Canada, Mexico en de Verenigde Staten. De ploeg van bondscoach Ronald Koeman won in de Johan Cruijff Arena met 4-0 van Litouwen. In de eerste helft opende Tijjani Reijnders de score, waarna in de tweede helft Cody Gakpo, Xavi Simons en Donyell Malen nog trefzeker waren. Koeman koos voor een aantal andere namen in de basisopstelling in vergelijking met de wedstrijd tegen Polen (1-1). Zo stonden Simons, Reijnders, Nathan Aké en Matthijs de Ligt aan de aftrap. Valentijn Driessen, chef voetbal van Telesport, was aanwezig bij de wedstrijd en laat zijn licht schijnen over de overwinning.

Luciano Valente heeft maandag zijn debuut voor het Nederlands elftal gemaakt. De 22-jarige middenvelder van Feyenoord mocht in de thuiswedstrijd tegen Litouwen in de WK-kwalificatie in de Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam in de 78e minuut invallen voor Xavi Simons.
